Breast Reduction Recovery

Dr. John Diaz Breast Reduction Specialist

The recovery process after breast reduction is much easier than most patients think. Patients go home after the procedure is done. Drains are unnecessary. Although there will be some discomfort and soreness, this is well controlled with medications and usually lasts only 24-48 hours. Most patients begin light activities, like simple chores around the house, after 2-3 days. Many patients are able to return to work and driving after approximately 5 days.

The first follow up visit is scheduled one week after surgery. Bandages are changed at this time. All stitches used are absorbable and, therefore, do not need to be removed. A supportive bra is provided which is recommended for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery. The breasts are fully healed after 3-4 weeks. Scars fade and are barely noticeable 6 months to 12 months after surgery.

During your consultation, Dr. Diaz will spend a significant amount of time reviewing the entire recovery process in detail. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions and address your concerns. Dr. Diaz will make sure that you have all of the information you need in order to plan your recovery so that it is as easy and smooth as possible.
